Fiber To The Premise (FTTP) Trial

Bell Canada announces a technology trial Terminal-to-Network interface for Fiber ToThe Premise based on publicly available standards. Service is expected to commence in the 4Q2006 in a selected area in Quebec.

The purpose of the trial is to validate the FTTP technology readiness and the Bell Canada service delivery requirements over a FTTP access.

The service will provide simultaneous voice, video & data capability between the subscriber and the main terminal. Voice will use telephony inside wiring, and video and data will use an Ethernet interface. The connection to the local loop will be provided through an Optical Network Interface. For the trial, the customer will still have access to its existing telephone service set.

ITU-T Recommendation G.984 GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network)
