Derived Channel Service
Bell Canada announces the planned commercial introduction of the Terminal-to-Network
interface for a Derived Channel application. Service is expected to commence by IVQ97 in
selected areas of Quebec and Ontario. A trial is to be launched during the month of
September, 1997.
This service will use existing telephone loops having metallic continuity, to provide
simultaneous voice and data under voice capability between the subscriber and the serving
central office. The terminal equipment associated with the Derived Channel will be
provided by the service provider at both the subscriber and central office ends of the
loop. The connection to the Class 5 switch is a normal two wire, POTS interface. Both the
central office and subscriber located Derived Channel equipment must be certified in
accordance with Certification
Specification CS-03.
