Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)
Bell Canada announces the planned commercial introduction of the Terminal-to-Network
interface for an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). Service is expected to
commence by IVQ97 in selected areas of Ontario and Quebec. An ADSL trial has been
previously announced in TAPAC Bulletin No. 96-11, dated July 29, 1996.
This service will use existing telephone loops having metallic continuity, to provide
simultaneous voice and data capability between the subscriber and the serving central
office. ADSL equipment will be provided by the ADSL service provider at both the
subscriber and central office ends of the loop. The connection to the Class 5 switch is a
normal two wire, POTS interface. Both central office and subscriber located ADSL equipment
must be certified in accordance with Certification
Specification CS-03.
