AnnouncementApril 27, 1998
No. BIA-3h (Formerly SIA-3w)
Subject:
FG-D CARRIER IDENTIFICATION CODE (CIC) AND CARRIER ACCESS CODE (CAC) FORMATS
Bell Canada previously disclosed on December 14, 1994 (TAPAC
Bulletin No. 94-11)
that both 3 and 4 digit Carrier Identification Codes (CIC), and both 5 and 7 digit Carrier
Access Codes (CAC) would be supported until the end of a permissive period. The end of
this permissive period has now been determined to be April 1, 1999.
Until the end of the permissive period, calls can be directed to a competitors' network
where FG-D (equal access) is provided by dialing a 5 digit CAC in the format 10XXX, where
XXX is the CIC of the carrier of choice. Introduction of the 4 digit CIC format required
expansion of the CAC to 7 digits in the format 101XXXX, where XXXX will be the CIC of the
carrier of choice.
